The X Games is an annual multi-sport event with a focus on action sports. The X Games airs live on ESPN and ABC, and is broken into seasons: the Winter X Games—held in January or February—and the X Games—usually held in August. The Winter X Games home is in Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado through 2010 (Winter X Games 14) and the X Games home is in Los Angeles through 2009 (X Games 15). The X Games also has international competitions and demos around the world that are held at varying times throughout the year. Competitors perform in many different categories and styles, vying to win bronze, silver and gold medals, as well as prize money. The competition has helped to make action sports more popular. In addition, because of the prestige of the games and the fame of the competitors, the X Games is often the showcase for broken records and never-before-seen tricks (for example, the "900" in skateboarding, and the "body varial" in MotoX). In addition to world-class competition, the X Games events also showcase X Fest—ultimate action sports and music festival complete with live music—athlete autograph sessions, live music, interactive elements, a mini skate park and BMX park, demos, and more. Combined the X Games becomes a festival-like atmosphere.
